Media Muppet

Over the coming months I'd be quite interested in introducing myself to and experimenting with GREEN SCREEN!!! The capital letters and over-use of exclamation marks should tell you that I am very excited about GREEN SCREEN!!! and yet - despite my best intentions over the past year - I have never gotten round to playing with GREEN SCREEN!!! just yet.

Anyway if you want to help out then that would be lovely. If it all turns out well it's something for your showreel. I'd be wanting to book one of the 'studios' (usually just a code-name for 'room') at Stevenson College Edinburgh, and try out my Green Screen stuff (ala, a giant green sheet and some pins!).

You can come along and help out with ideas, take a technical role (lighting is very important in green screen), or be in front of camera. The finished product will be a variety of short films/sequences/music videos all entirely green screened. So yes, not right now but in the coming weeks! Just throwing it out there...

depending on who takes you for your TV class you should be able to get a bit of practice with Chroma-keying. We had frasier who was pretty good helping us achieving the lookwe wanted which included hroma keying in the TV Studio. The way that the TV studio is built tho it is not the greatest of rooms to do it. ie the blue curtain is not pulled tight and the lighting it not very easily adjusted (cos so many lamps needed replaced when i was there).

Of course in the TV Studio we were doing this for a live recording but the pratice will good for you

Stupid question - I'm guessing shooting on pure black or white wouldn't be a good alternative to the green and blue? I mean if I was wanting to make changes to the background but not to the subject.

You may already know this but thought I'd say just to feel brainy - Blue and Green are the colours least found in human skin tones, thats why they use screens that colour.

I'm aiming for this to happen on Thursday 27th November, in one of the SCE studios, during the evening. Will hopefully be able to confirm this tomorrow. And then we can take it from there.

The main aims are 1) to test out the green screen initially and try some simple exercises, and then build on this knowledge in order to begin making stuff a little more adventurous in coming weeks. 2) Bring together people from the different AV/TV/Film classes in SCE - anyone who is interested. A small group, though - no point having extra people around who have nothing to do. 3) Do something a little different. 4) Shamelessly plug Media Muppet as a magical vessel of opportunity.

Hopefully you got my text on Saturday. I am sorry to say I will be unable to do this Thursday - by employer has pencilled my in to work 6 - 10pm. The Xmas consumerist madness seems to start earlier every year. I will be in late on tuesday doing a voice over for Chris. Will you be conducting the green screen project on regular Thursdays?
